Somerset College; The Perfect Place to Study a Degree

Posted by Somerset College on May 5, 2016 9:31:07 AM

The government's cap on university numbers has been lifted, making it possible for the larger institutes to become even bigger, and some might argue, more impersonal.

Despite this, Somerset College remains determined to offer a personal university experience with student nurture at its heart.

Small but Perfectly Formed

With personal tutor contact time above the national average, our expert teaching staff are able to really nurture students as individuals and help them achieve their full potential. Class sizes remain small and group discussions and debates are always encouraged.

Andy Howell, a lecturer on our media make-up degree programmes explains: “We stand out from our competition because of the way we deliver our degrees. We know our students, and they all know us. Larger universities often have a more didactic way of teaching, but we’re far more approachable and the atmosphere is relaxed.”

Enjoy the full Student Experience

Taunton is the county town of Somerset and offers a fantastic mix of shops, cafés, restaurants, bars and leisure facilities. The College is just a 10-minute walk from the town centre where students can meet friends and enjoy everything from quiet parks to a busy high street.

There’s a great atmosphere in the evenings, with a well-supported student club scene. Resident and guest DJs bring the town’s venues to life with each nightclub attracting a dedicated crowd.

If you’re keen on health and fitness, Taunton has plenty of clubs which compete at national and international levels. The town is also the home of Somerset County Cricket Club, so there are plenty of opportunities if you fancy catching some T20 matches.

Close to the Quantocks and the coast, there's great opportunities to get involved in the great outdoors with activities such as surfing, horse riding and mountain biking, there really is something for everyone.
