Somerset College: The Perfect Place to Study a Health & Social Care Degree

Posted by Somerset College on Dec 18, 2015 4:20:36 PM

The government's cap on university numbers has been lifted, making it possible for the larger institutes to become even bigger, and some might argue, more impersonal.

Contrary to this, Somerset College remains determined to offer a personal university experience with student nurture at its heart. With a subject as personal and socially critical as Health and Social Care, this ‘personal touch’ is even more important – at Somerset College, we treat you as an individual and our job is to nurture and grow your skills and practice.

Small but Perfectly Formed

With personal tutor contact time well above the national average, our expert teaching staff are able to really nurture students as individuals and ensure they achieve their full potential. A caring attitude and independent thinking is encouraged whilst industry-standard expectations and practices are maintained. Class sizes remain small and group discussions and debates are always encouraged.

Our lecturers pride themselves on developing personal relationships with students through one-to-one tutorials, enabling bespoke career paths to be forged. Your lecturers will be highly experienced within the world of work in Health and Social Care and will be able to give you personal career advice and options.

Andy Howell, a lecturer on our degree programmes, explains: “We stand out from our competition because of the way we deliver our degrees. We know our students, and they all know us. Larger universities often have a more didactic way of teaching, but we’re far more approachable and the atmosphere is relaxed.”

Enjoy the full Student Experience

students_in_taunton_(2)With such an active Student Union and centrally located campus, our undergraduates also enjoy the full university student experience whilst studying with us.

Taunton is the county town of Somerset and offers a fantastic mix of shops, cafés, restaurants, bars and leisure facilities. The College is just a 10-minute walk from the town centre where students can meet friends and enjoy everything from quiet parks to a busy high street.

There’s a great atmosphere in the evenings, with a well-supported student club scene. Resident and guest DJs bring the town’s venues to life with each nightclub attracting a dedicated crowd.

If you’re keen on health and fitness, Taunton has plenty of gyms to choose from. And if you’d like to take part in a team sport outside of your studies, the town boasts its own cricket, rugby, netball and football clubs. It’s even got a racecourse, for those who enjoy the sport of kings.
