Art and Design students off to Belgium
Five Art and Design students from Somerset College have recently been selected to participate in a four day ‘Mega Brainstorming’ event in Gent, Belgium. The creative budding entrepreneurs were selected to join other students from across Europe, after they impressed a panel of experts at a regional event.
The students were presented with real-life business issues affecting local companies and brainstormed ideas to find creative solutions. They will now face similar challenges, but on a larger scale in Belgium, at the international event where they will be required to utilise their creative talents to resolve a number of challenges.

Students exhibit artwork at Musgrove Park Hospital
Each year, our second year student’s undertake a live art project, which focuses on uplifting a particular area of Musgrove Park Hospital. A small panel from the Art for Life team then judge the creative work and select six pieces of artwork for display in specified areas of the hospital. The 2014 Art for Life winner was awarded to Bridie Heffernan who will now see her art piece exhibited in the new Jubilee Building of the hospital.
Lisa Harty (Art & Design Co-ordinator with Art for Life) said, “It is great to continue our annual project with Somerset College students. The project allows us to continue to create artwork that improves our hospital environment for patients, visitors and staff, whilst also giving the students a valuable experience of working on a live project.”
