Counselling Courses with BTC
At Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC), we offer a range of Counselling courses at different levels, meaning you can start your career or progress your career within this interesting and professional industry.
BTC provides a range of professional qualifications which can be achieved at different stages throughout your career, and at varying levels, providing clear progression routes.

- Counselling Skills (Distance Learning) Level 2
- Counselling Skills Certificate Level 2
- Counselling Certificate Level 3
- Counselling Practice Diploma Level 4
- Psychotherapeutic Counselling Diploma Level 5
Your counselling training pathway:
Counselling Skills Certificate Level 2
No previous experience required
Candidates will need to have an interview with one of the course tutors
Counselling Certificate Level 3
Candidates need to have either successfully completed an AIM Level 2 Certificate in
Counselling Skills OR completed and attended 100 hours of counselling skills
training at Level 2 or equivalent. (Distance Learning does not meet the requirement.)
Selection is through interview. An offer of a place on AIM Level 3 Certificate in
Counselling is conditional on a Level 2 pass.
Counselling Practice Diploma Level 4
Candidates need to have completed a Level 3 Certificate in Counselling or equivalent.
They need to have completed at least 200 hours of classroom based counselling training hours.
Candidates will need to have a group interview followed by a 1-2-1 interview.
Candidates will need to provide a self-reflective written essay, a relevant reference
and will have to undergo a DBS check for placement.
Psychotherapeutic Counselling Diploma Level 5
Candidates need to have completed a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling Practice
or equivalent, inclusive of 100 hours of supervised placement.
They need to have completed at least 650 hours of classroom based counselling training hours.
Candidates will need to have an interview with one of the course tutors.
Candidates will need to provide a self-reflective written essay, a relevant reference
and will have to undergo a DBS check for placement (if applicable).
